Dance with IRIE! this Summer
IRIE! dance theatre will be hosting African Dance classes plus African and Caribbean drumming classes during August for children aged 5-7 years and 8-10 years.
The dance and drumming classes will be held on Wednesday the 4, 11, 18 and 25 August 2010. In addition, on the 25 August the children will have the opportunity to share what they have learnt in a special performance to which family, friends and other select guests will be invited.
As well as learning traditional African dance plus African and Caribbean drumming, this summer program is an ideal chance for children to learn more about African and Caribbean culture in a fun-filled and engaging way.

Tutors
The African Dance classes will be taught by Charles Maema who is South African in origin but an artist who has embraced both London and IRIE! as home away from home. As well as teaching community dance classes on behalf of the company, Charles Maema also teaches on the Dance Foundation Degree – a program which is a partnership between IRIE! dance theatre, City & Islington College and Metropolitan University.
The drumming classes will be taught by Zozo Shuaibu – an IRIE! dance theatre veteran and as well as being a Master Drummer is also renowned as a Story-teller. Zozo teaches both nationally and internationally.

Places for this children's African dance and African and Caribbean drumming program must be booked by Monday 26 July. You can pay online or by cheque.

IRIE! dance theatre is Britain's leading dance theatre company working in the field of African and Caribbean dance fusion. The company was founded in 1985 with the principal aim of heightening the profile of Black dance in Britain and has achieved this aim through extensive performance work, education work in schools and in the community and through accredited training programs of which the latest is a Dance Foundation Degree delivered in partnership with City & Islington College, London Metropolitan University.
